When used correctly, effective email marketing is one of the cheapest marketing tools that you can use to communicate directly with your prospective, existing and past customers. An email marketing campaign attracts new customers, keeps and builds relationships with existing ones and up-sells or cross-sells your products and services. Here are 10 steps to creating an effective email marketing campaign.

1. Test Your Subject Lines.

Your subject line is like a headline of an advertisement. if it does not attract the attention and interest of the reader, it will be ignored.

2. Make Your Content Easy To Read.

Many people set their in boxes to show the first few words or lines of an email to see if it is worth reading. The first few lines have to be as engaging and relevant as possible. Avoid long paragraphs and only use fonts that are easy to read at reasonable size.

3. Don’t Keep Sending The Same Message.

Your prospective customers will buy when they are ready to buy, not when you are ready to sell. If they always gets the same information and that information is always trying to sell them something, they will start to ignore your messages. Keep in contact with news and stories with relevant information.

4. Take Action.

What is the purpose of your email marketing campaign? Make it clear what you want action you want your readers to take. Use text that has a compelling reason to click on the link and try to avoid just saying ‘click here’.

5. Provide Value.

People buy from people, organizations and brands they like and respect. If your only goal is just to just sell stuff and make money, you will not build any relationship with your list and lots of people will unsubscribe from your list.

6. Know Your Customers.

Know the fears, needs, desires or wants that your clients or prospects have and let them know how your product or service meets or solves it for them. Remember that no product or service can be all things to all people. If you don’t know what your readers want, ask them!

7. Test Before You Send.

Do not send your email marketing campaign without making sure that it is working. Send the email to yourself to check that it looks and reads as you intended, all your links work, and any personalisation is working correctly.

8. Allow People To Unsubscribe.

Remember that people have given you their email address and their permission to send emails to them. If somebody decides that they do not want to receive emails anymore, let them unsubscribe easily. If a recipient has lost interest in receiving your emails, it is very unlikely that they will ever become a customer.

9. Remain Consistent.

There is no right or wrong answer on how many emails you should send each week or month. Have a plan of how often you will send your emails, stick to it and avoid irregular schedules. If you email twice a week and then start emailing twice a day, then revert to once a week, your recipients may well become fed-up and unsubscribe.

Even though I always say that having your own product and website is key to become really successful online. That being said it doesn’t mean that one can’t make money without it. So I’ve listed five ways that you can use to start making some money today.

The idea of online survey is that you will be given a survey that has to be completed by you to earn money. This surveys is conducted by companies who are observing the community to discover the best way to market their product or services. The amount of money you can earn per survey depends on the importance or the length of survey. Some survey companies doesn’t reward you with money. Instead, they giving you prizes/gifts or entering you to a lucky draw.

It’s name reveals most of what it is about, you know what you have do to make money. Bah, that makes me sick, if I got a dollar everytime I heard that I wouldn’t have to do marketing online. First things first, money is being made online (or any where else for that matter) when money is switching owner and it can do so from selling a service, a product physical or digital, membership or basically whatever people are prepared to pay for. With affiliate marketing you do not have to handle refund requests, complaint or any other complicated stuff and can just focus on selling the products that you promote.

Even though affiliate marketing is not a difficult business model it still takes some learning to do if you are new in the game. One of the most obvious mistakes I see people do is that they do a little effort here and there and then they ask why they are not rich yet. Don’t fall into that pit as that is so far from the truth. Any business, online or offline needs to be treated as a business and if you work it with consistency and focus on one thing at a time it can make you very rich.

  Understand what's needed to be done

  You need to sign up with a company that offers an affiliate program or register on a digital marketplace such as Clickbank or JVZoo if you want to sell digital products. Most places give you a link to their page which looks identical to every other page affiliates are promoting. Also sign up with an email marketing provider such as Getresponse or Aweber so you can build an email list to promote offers to over and over. I would also suggest signing up to a web host so you can create your own UNIQUE landing page for buiding your list, more about that later.

1: Take Your Time And Learn 

You are probably excited to get started but before you go and setup everything you might want to take a little time to learn how to do it the right way. There are many places online where you can learn how to do this. Most marketers would probably tell you here to go and invest some time and money into some kind of product, ecourse or whatever.

Feel free to do so but I'll try to cover it all but I'll try to cover as much as possible in this post.Now when I say take time I don't mean buy course after course, I mean learn, make a plan and take action. With no action no money it's as simple as that.

2: Don't Get Fooled By Promises Online

Don't get into all ridiculous promises online, if it sounds to good to be true it is. You probably get bombarded with emails promising you riches over night with no effort and no one of them is true. Just ignore the hype and build your business nice and consistent and you will make money in time.

3: Build A List Using An Autoresponder

Most visitors on any web site and I'll talk as much as 98% of them won't buy anything but you can get more of them to buy by using email marketing. This way you can build trust with them and get them to return to the site by sending them emails to follow up with them or even offer them a fat bonus when they buy through your link.

4: Stay Away From PPC - Until You Know How It Works

Now I do prefer paid traffic but when it comes to PPC you can loose a big chunk of money if you do not know what you are doing. I'm taking the quality ones that is also costy such as Google Adwords, Facebook Ads and Bing PPC. They all have a steep learning curve and requires some testing but when you feel ready go for it and it will probably be your main source of getting subscribers and in the long run... Money!

5: Take It Seriously And Not Down And Dirty

When something's to easy people tend to take it for granted and not getting serious about it. You don't wanna attract a lot of tire kickers that never buy and you definitely don't want to be one yourself. I cannot stress this enough but you cannot never EVER treat your business as a hobby, treat it as a business if you want to make money or get a work, period!

6: If You Are Using PPC

If you are using PPC to drive visitors and you are selling a laptop don't just write "Laptop For Sale" That is way to generic and won't attract much attention instead write something specific that is great with that offer for example "Laptop with Octa-Core CPU, 32GB Ram And A Free Game Included" Or whatever is true for your offer.

Create attention and curiousity.

7: No Need To Keep Any Inventories

You don't have to handle any products, warehouses or any of that complicated stuff but  don't forget to keep a good relationship with your customers as they will be more likely to buy from you in the future as well. In other words be honest and helpful.

8: Global Market

With the power of the internet and when promoting affiliate products you are dealing with a global marketplace. You just need to promote the right products and the right niches that people actually want.

9: Keep Your Risk Low

Even though you might have a small advertising budget and some costs for autoresponder and a web host affiliate marketing should not be very costly so you have a low risk, just keep it low and make sure you have a positive ROI (Return of Investment) before you go big and scale it up.

10: No Closing Time

Your business works 24/7 for you every single day of the year abd you are targeting a worldwide market, can it get any better?

However that doesn't mean that people are likely to buy all the time, make sure to setup your campaigns and ads to show when people are buying, in time from testing and tweaking you will see a pattern what time of the day, months of the year and so on when people are more likely to buy. The same week they get their salary tends to increase in sales in general.

11: Keep Your Focus

For most people it will make sense to promote many different programs and products and YES it does BUT work at one at a time, once one get successful move on to the next one.

Don't put to many irons in the fire since the result is usually that all of them goes to waste.

12: No Push Button Magic

Don't think for a second that all you got to do is set up a web site and collect the checks. You will need to learn internet marketing techniques. Even if you only learn one or two you can get all the traffic you need, and learn to convert the traffic you get into paying customers. Some internet marketing techniques are easy to learn and others will take quite a bit of time. How much you decide to learn will be entirely up to you. Just make sure you don't spend all of your time learning and none of your time doing.

13: Forum Marketing

Make sure to sign up to multiple forums within your niche and make sure to only sign up for those which allow you to put a signature with a link inside. Then be active and socialize with people, help them when you can and you will see some free traffic coming your way. Forum marketing is one of the easiest ways to drive free traffic and you can have some fun while doing it because all you have to do is talk with people. Every time you make a post in a forum you also create a link back to your site which will attract people to click on it as well as it is good for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), just make sure you are NOT being spammy, instead be healpful, creative and post great content.

14: Write Reviews

Write honest reviews of products that you are promoting, people love reading reviews and in the bottom of each article make sure to include your affiliate link to the product you are promoting. People search for reviews when they are interested in a product but are not sure if it is good or not so don't over do it be honest and set their expectations right and if your review convince them that it is a good product they will by (after they click your link of course).

15: Create Video Reviews

Same as the above tip but instead you make a video and post it on Youtube. Youtube videos are easily to rank on Google and youcan include alink in your video description. Name the video *Product Name Review* and you will attract traffic soon.

The major reasons people work for themselves or others is to make enough income to cater for their basic and secondary need. It becomes a challenge when the income made is not able to cater for these needs as the reason or objective for making money is defeated. The same could be said of not generating a full time income by doing affiliate marketing. It begs the question, what is affiliate marketing, and why are affiliates not able to generate a full time income?

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.  In simple terms affiliate marketing means selling another person’s or company’s products and services. It’s like a referral service. You set up a website or blog and join affiliate programs that are relevant to your audience. You can connect to these programs through affiliate networks that provide you with a link that you include on your site. When someone clicks the link and purchases the product or service you’re marketing, you receive a percentage of the sale proceeds as a commission.

Affiliate marketing overlaps with other Internet marketing methods to some degree, because affiliates often use regular advertising methods. Those methods include organic search engine optimization (SEO), paid search engine marketing (PPC – Pay Per Click), e-mail marketing, content marketing, and (in some sense) display advertising. On the other hand, affiliates sometimes use less orthodox techniques, such as publishing reviews of products or services offered by a partner.

It has been found that the people really making money are those actually selling their products and services.  A person who makes a product for say amazing SEO plugin for WordPress is making enough money to generate a stable income. The affiliates are not. For example, Thesis WordPress theme by DIY Themes is surely making money, their affiliates are “sooooooo” many (emphasis supplied), that the entire market is chopped up and distributed amongst the 1000s of affiliates and what each gets in turn, are a few $100 at best (if at all).

Time factor to generate traffic that would result in full time income

Affiliate marketing is not recommended for those who want to make quick bucks or income as the marketing process is time consuming. Once started, affiliate marketing might generate little or no income for the first few months and for individuals looking to generate a stable income daily or monthly by their standards would be highly disappointed for the first few months. There are some different online businesses that would generate a full time income in the first few weeks or months but trying out affiliate given the time factor might be a bad idea.

Affiliate Ad Hijacking

A method of depriving an affiliate of the income which should be rightfully his affiliate ad hijacking. Hijacking negatively impacts your ad programs in a lot of ways which affects your ability to generate an income as it makes you lose traffic. Once there is little or not much traffic coming to you, your income reduces drastically and could sometimes lead to losses. If you are hijacked as an affiliate marketer, there is a high chance that your commission drops by 30% or more and this could affect the ability for you to generate income that would cater for your primary and secondary needs.

You have no control over the businesses product or service or how it does business

As an affiliate, if you are not able to control the business products or services or how the business is conducted, your income is affected as you have no control over your earnings. Competition

There is great competition in affiliate marketing and once affiliates are not able to meet up to the high standards, there is little or no income generated. Companies do not pay

It is well known-fact that some companies do not pay and if you are unfortunate enough to work with them, then there is no full time generated income coming in at the end of the day, week or month. Another factor that impedes your ability to generate full time income as an affiliate is the difficulty in making resales as the customers belong to the merchants and you have little or no information once you want to re-sell to them.

In summary, generating income as an affiliate is well within reach but getting enough income to cater for your needs might pose a serious challenge. It is advised that different sources of income are combined with affiliate marketing in order to generate a full time income.

I will start today with a good advice to all who start out doing affiliate marketing. If you hate wasting money using solo ads there are some things you can do. The first is start building a list. What do I mean here? Basically is putting a squeeze page of your own collecting email addresses before sending the traffic to the affiliate link. If you really like the product, do a video about it and have your affiliate link under it; a “click here” that uses your link to get to the sales page. If you do not like doing videos but are good at writing, pay someone to do the video for you. But even if you send the traffic straight through to the sales page, having a squeeze page on your own makes a huge difference. Why? Having them on your list, you will get the chance to mail them, linking to the offer till they either buy or unsubscribe. By doing this simple extra, just having a small pop up window collecting the emails when buying solo ads you will get a far better result than just wasting traffic.

If you have knowledge that is related to the affiliate product, you can create a product related to it and put it as a back end offer to the product you are promoting and have a chance to increase your revenue. Yes if you promote a 9.97$ product, you may put your own offer out there for 9.94$ and if you are good you would get people buying both and having a good chance of doubling the income on every sale while building your name. The bonus of it all is you get people who are willing to click on links and buyers in your list. So if you grow sick of promoting one affiliate offer, you will have people in you list (from your previous campaign) that will receive mails about your new offer, people who is already your subscribers.

You may even make your own video or/and product and combine it with IM Freegifts to increase your profit. By doing so you will get even more money back from the traffic you are sending.

Sven what if I can not come up with an idea to a video? My answer is, share your story. Most likely you have seen my story, what you may learn from reading it (except from my story online) is how to tell a story. The story that you tell need to be emotionally engaging or entertaining, just telling about yourself or showing them who you are by shooting a video will never work.

There are many people who are better at writing stories than me, people are making a living as authors or bloggers. Stories are if told the right way (engaging the audience) and marketed to get published and promoted have made many people rich. Stories come in the shapes of movies, TV series, books, computer games, and blogs. If you count entertainment you have YouTube, standup comedy and much more. Good stories are however never when people are showing their average home, family or themselves. If you do not stand out you will not get noticed.

The story’s aim in IM is to build credibility. If you are very confident and a natural relationship builder who are good at winning people over, there is a good chance that a video with a short story presenting you as a marketeer is a good way to go. Just be sure that you got the story concept before you shoot the video. Having a history of selling over the phone to cold customers (people who have never heard of me or the product I was promoting) I had a good starting point.My way of working was (and still is) building credibility and letting the person listening decide if the offer is for them. So I tell them a bit more, took a bit longer time to explain and market the product, and I also got the lowest amount of people asking for refunds in my team when I sold over the phone.

So if you do not like selling, here is the twist. Selling is applied after marketing. The better you do marketing the less you need to be like a salesman. If the marketing was poor or nonexistent to start with, a good salesman uses marketing to get across. A good marketeer need to know that the product is welcome before creating it. The people in your list are the most important people to you. Why? Because the key to success is a satisfied list, and listening to your list to learn what they are after is the key that allow you to supply the right product/service. My goal is to create a win-win situation giving you what you want and by doing so turning more of my list into my fans.

As mentioned in many of my earlier posts, creating a fanbase is the key to success in marketing. If you curious about why, here is the best way to answer your question.Here is an example of the customer mindset: If I go to a supermarket to buy cereals or bread, and they do not have my favourite brand… There is a big chance that I buy another, because I do not want to waste my time going to another store looking for it.

Here is an example of a fan mindset: If you are really into one sport, and your favourite team looses… would you switch team? Exactly, fans of for example soccer would not change team even if the team they are supporting is having a terrible streak of losses. If you are a fan of a player instead of a team, you will support him/her no matter what team. That is why my fans are so important to me, you are Team Sven, my favourite team!

Where Are You At the Moment In Your Business?

When you have made a solid plan containing all the details of your journey from start to goal it is time to start working according to your plan. When doing so you will begin to organize parts of your plan into sub-plans like: building your website, writing e-mail to your follow-up sequence, how to do accounting in order to keep the people at the taxation office happy and so on. At this point, you will be testing your website. So if you hit the jackpot by the traffic coming to your website. Or you start using solo ads like most of us do. Solo ads is paid email traffic from Udimi. Because testing and doing split test are important.

So if you do not set up your web site right to collect e-mail via squeeze pages. And people do not buy your products when signing up nor after going through your follow-up sequence. So you need to make changes on your squeeze page and/or sales page before contacting people/sending more traffic to it. So you are now learning where are you at the moment in your business. Here is when you start finding better ways to achieve your goals. And moreover finding out how to overcome the challenges you will be facing. So now if not earlier you see what is between you and having a successful business. In other words, you will be turning your plan into processes.

Explaining Business Processes

Processes are sequences of tasks; starting with a need or a problem and ending with satisfaction. examples is support; what happens from customer contacting you till you get the review after closing the ticket. From squeeze page to customer review. From idea to publishing podcast/blog/video. Processes are things can be worked on separately. So by doing processes the correctly online you will can help the right team member. So you will know who to help and educate if you see a problem.You processes will tell you where are you at the moment in your business.

Processes are the best way to organize work. Some of the tasks needs a team. Either because the amount of work or people with different strengths. So you can start outsourcing parts of your work to coworkers and/or people you do business with. Because if support is not working you will know who to help even if you have a big team. Processes main goal is making it easier for everybody and good leadership. So your first response to problem is helping and educating. Because it may be the process rather than the person that is the problem.

Where Are You At the Moment In Your Business? A System Of Processes

After rising to the level where you start seeing the bigger picture. And you will start focusing on getting the most out of your team. So as a first step, you will be looking at having the right person in the right place. Because doing what you best at is the most motivating thing in the world. So letting them use their strengths will increase productivity and satisfaction. At this point, you are in the position where you can get in touch with people via mail or on forums to create a network. Moreover starting joint ventures  where you will start seeing some momentum in your business.

I want to be honest here, you need to contact hundreds or even thousands of potential JV-partners before you get the income that allow you to quit your day job and getting the income you need from your business. When you become really experienced you start to see your business as a system of processes. At this point, you know where you are going and start seeing what needs to be done before most people around you have noticed it as an issue.

Now you are running a business as an expert. So at this point you need to lead your team through the steps of understanding that you have been through in order for them to understand your instructions. And by doing so making your business become less dependent of you. Here is when you dramatically decrease your workload. So you start having more time to do what you want while continuing growing your business.

For whatever reasons, I’ve had so much success using this subject line when promoting free classified sites, safelists, and those viral ad boards.

2. Oops… please delete this email

This works simply because it raises prospects curiosity. I’m always a sucker for this subject line. I just want to know what it is that is so secret.

3. I need your help, please?

There’s something about being a human, always wanting to help another human being, It’s hard to explain, it just works.

4. Bob, I haven’t received your shipping address yet.

What! my shipping address? why do you need my shipping address for. This particular subject line really piqued my interest. If you are sending post cards to your members or prospects, this will improve your sales especially if you personalize it.

5. How my site got listed #1 on Google, for free!

This one made several sales from Trafficswarm traffic exchange program when I was promoting an affiliate program about search engine e-book. Even made more sales with ezine solo ads using the same subject line.

6. Paul, Please accept my sincerest apology.

When I saw this subject line from an email, my first reaction was, “who/why/what are you sorry about?…huh?” Exactly it got my attention and my curiosity. The sender was apologizing for not sending that email sooner which was about a new traffic exchange program. Good grief.

Conclusion

In conclusion, make your subject line so compelling that it’s almost irresistible for your prospects not to open the email message. If you can hypnotize your readers with cleaver subject lines, you are half way to making a sale. Also when people can recognize where that email message came from, that will help getting your email message open as well. Don’t use fake names, use your real name instead.

Of course, I am not recommending that you use any of these headlines if they are not true in relation to the content of the e-mail message.
